In the first of our new Meet The Team blog series we chat to a long standing member of Supertemps who’s taking on a new challenge – and, boy, does she love a challenge!
Sian Williams heads up Supertemps Specialist division – a department dedicated to sourcing and placing professionals in specialist roles across the North Wales region and beyond. Whether you’re an IT professional, a seasoned financier or a time-served engineer our Specialist division can help further your career.
Sian recently returned to Supertemps following a six month sabbatical in New Zealand. Sian is a North Wales girl born and bred but she’s also something of a globe trotter. As well as New Zealand, she’s travelled and worked in Canada, France and America in the quest to quench her wanderlust and is always thinking about her next big adventure.
And adventure should be Sian’s middle name! When she’s not travelling the adventure happens closer to home: Sian lists hiking, skiing, running and rock climbing as just some of the ways she ‘relaxes’ in her spare time!
We clipped on our skis and caught up with Sian recently to find out just what makes our globe-trotting recruitment pro tick.
(Tori) Describe a typical Supertemps working week for you.
(Sian) There is no such thing as a typical working week! I split much of my time between the office and getting out and about. When I’m in the office I’ll be undertaking tasks such as responding to the mountain of emails in my inbox (I prefer mountains you can climb!), drafting job descriptions, updating candidate availability, holding interviews and providing support and guidance to clients and candidates… oh, and tea, drinking lots of tea!
Outside the office I’ll be meeting and networking with new and existing clients and candidates. I love attending local networking events and jobs fairs because you never know who you’re going to meet next. I also enjoy seeing clients in their workplace to better understand how their businesses work up close… oh, and tea, having a cup of tea with them!
What do you like the most about the recruitment industry?
The variety, the challenge, the people and the sense of fulfilment from doing a rewarding and worthwhile job.
What do you like least about the recruitment industry?
I can’t stand the cowboy agencies and persistent cold callers who tarnish the reputation of quality, independent, customer-focused agencies like Supertemps.
What do you think are the most important attributes of successful people?
A vision, determination and tenacity. I believe if you know what you want and you’re determined to get there, then success is always within reach.
What’s the one accomplishment you’re most proud of?
Completing my first marathon was pretty amazing, but I’m actually most proud of the time, effort and commitment I put in to the training. Rain, sleet or snow I was out training, I didn’t let anything stop me!
If you had only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
